Tumblr is the fastes-growing social media platform in the world.
This is according to new research from the Global Web Index, which found the microblogging website has increased its member base by 45 per cent in the last six months. Meanwhile, its active users grew by 120 per cent, TechCrunch reports.
Pinterest is the second fastest-growing network, with a rise of 57 per cent in its members and 111 per cent in active users. Photo-sharing app Instagram came in third, with member growth of 36 per cent and a rise of 64 per cent in active users.
All of the other major social media platforms - LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Facebook - also saw both their members and active users increase over the past six months.
The latter remains the largest social network in the world by far, with 1.35 billion active users in the third quarter. However, the Global Web Index rated it as having the lowest level of growth, with members up six per cent and active users up two per cent.
Jason Mander, head of trends and author of the Global Web Index report, stated: "Facebook has some major challenges to face. Firstly, people are growing tired of it, with 50 per cent of members in the UK and US saying that they’re using it less frequently than they used to (rising to 64 per cent among teens)."
While these comments suggest Facebook has some challenges to face, the social network's statistics remain highly impressive. Its active user base is the equivalent of roughly one-fifth of the world's population.
Meanwhile, the International Telecommunication Union recently revealed three billion people in the world are now online, which means more than a third of active web users are Facebook regulars.
In terms of social and messaging apps, the Global Web Index revealed Snapchat is the fastest-growing, followed by Facebook Messenger.
