Do you enjoy catching up with BBC TV shows online through iPlayer? If so, you've got longer to watch your favourites, as the broadcaster has extended the amount of time that content is available on the platform.
TV and radio shows will now be on iPlayer for 30 days, compared to the seven-day period that has previously been the norm.
The BBC's director Tony Hall stated: "iPlayer pioneered online viewing. It is recognised as not just the first, but the best service of its type in the world. It offers amazing value. But we want to go further. That’s why we began reinventing iPlayer earlier this year with a brand new redesign and features.
"Extending the catch up window to 30 days now makes the best value on-demand service even better."
The broadcaster said the new viewing period coincides with its new Autumn schedule, which sees the return of popular shows such as Birmingham-based gangster drama Peaky Blinders, crime show the Fall, factual series Human Universe and sitcom Detectorists.
Ralph Rivera, director of future media at the BBC, revealed there was a high level of demand for content to be available for longer on iPlayer and said viewers will now have more freedom to watch programmes when and where it suits them.
According to the latest figures from the broadcaster, some 231 million viewing requests were made on iPlayer during July. Coverage of the World Cup was particularly popular, with semi-final clash between Brazil and Germany being watched by 1.2 million people.
Of the total viewing requests received, 15 per cent were to watch live content, showing a significant number of people use the web to watch TV as it is broadcast in addition to catching up on shows they may have missed.
