An increasing number of UK consumers are comfortable doing some of their Christmas shopping with mobile devices, according to the latest report from IBM.
It revealed that the iPad alone accounted for 10.8 per cent of online shopping over the last month, reports Internet Retailing.
With mobile internet access often extremely helpful for households that suffer from poor ADSL connections, m-commerce has been described by analysts as a potential boom industry over the coming years.
The number of consumers using a mobile device to visit a retailer's site grew to 21.5 per cent, an increase of 12 per cent compared to 2011. Social media is still playing a relatively small role, with shoppers referred from social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube only generating 0.22 per cent of online sales.
Richard Houston, the strategy director at Wolff Olins, recently told the Guardian that the rollout of 4G across the UK is likely to be a huge gamechange in terms of how people access the internet.
