The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has called on the government to improve broadband connections for companies in the UK.
Saturday saw the coalition announce an incentive scheme to encourage firms to take up super-fast services, but the FSB said the government should not ignore those that cannot access such technology.
"There are still thousands of firms around the UK which struggle to get sufficient broadband to run their business. The FSB wants to see more of a push by government to achieving universal fit-for-purpose connectivity," the organisation stated.
Research by the FSB has revealed 90 per cent of small companies use the internet, but less than 30 per cent trade online, meaning many are missing out on potentially valuable custom.
The organisation said better connectivity could help firms expand, create jobs and reach out to foreign markets. However, it warned businesses based outside of major cities could miss out if action is not taken to improve internet access across the nation.
