The number of broadband users across the world grew in the third quarter of 2013.
New data from Point Topic shows an increase of 1.8 per cent occurred, taking the total number of subscribers to 670 million.
This is significantly more growth than in the second quarter, when an increase of only 0.7 per cent was recorded, ISPreview reports.
Point Topic's research also revealed there was a rise in the number of satellite broadband users across the world - subscribers to the technology were up by 1.3 per cent in the third quarter.
Earlier this year, Point Topic said satellite broadband had reached a "tipping point" and could now play an important part in bringing super-fast broadband to 100 per cent of the European Union.
The technology has also been praised by vice-president of the European Commission Neelie Kroes, who stated it has helped the EU reach its 'broadband for all' target.
