ITV's online offering has helped the broadcaster increase its revenue in the first nine months of 2013.
The company's total earnings are up by six per cent to £1.66 billion, compared to £1.57 billion last year. Its online revenue grew by 17 per cent in this period, making it one of the strongest-performing divisions of the business.
ITV offers live streaming of all its channels - ITV, ITV 2, ITV 3 and ITV 4 - and also provides the ITV player service, which allows users to catch up on shows on demand or rent series, such as Downton Abbey, online.
Commenting on the company's results, ITV chief executive Adam Crozier said: "We continue to make good progress with our strategy of growing and strengthening ITV both creatively and commercially, and all parts of the business are performing well."
"ITV is now a stronger and more balanced business and as we move into 2014 we will continue to see growth across the company," he added.
Online has become a key element of TV broadcasting and all of the major channels offer live streaming and on-demand catch up services.
The BBC's iPlayer is a prime example of this. Statistics released by the broadcaster in October revealed the site received around seven million programme views per day and 49 million a week during August.
Ralph Rivera director of BBC future media, added: "We plan to revolutionise iPlayer from a service primarily used to catch up on BBC TV to an entertainment destination for all."
Last month also saw the BBC reveal it plans to revamp and improve the iPlayer service as it has become the "front door" to the organisation's programming for many people. Other popular online offerings from major broadcaster include the Sky Go service and Channel 4's 4oD.
