Poor ADSL connection speeds in Cheshire could be given a boost after the government gave the green light to a partnership of Cheshire councils for progression to the pre-procurement stage.
It is estimated faster broadband will boost the whole of Cheshire's economy by £1.3bn over the next 15 years, as well as creating some 11,000 jobs.
The partnership - comprising Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East, Warrington and Halton councils - is hoping to follow in the footsteps of other such organisations set up to earn private and public funding for a superfast broadband rollout, reports the Ellesmere Port Pioneer.
It will require around £40 million in order to reach 100 per cent coverage for the area in question.
The government has already offered roughly £530 million to community groups in order to boost the provision of rural broadband across the UK, along with £150 million for the super-connected cities initiative.
