Internet users in Llandudno, Galashiels and Carlisle are being forced to contend with the slowest broadband speeds in the UK, according to new research.
The study, conducted by thinkbroadband, discovered that those surfing the web in the London borough of Sutton have access to the best speeds across the whole country. Here, the average download rate is 19.8 Mbps and the average upload rate is 1.9 Mbps.
In contrast, the slowest average speeds are found in Llandrindod Wells in mid-Wales, where the download rate is 2.4 Mbps and the upload rate is just 0.7 Mbps.
According to the research, residents in London, the south-east, the north-east, north-west and Northern Ireland have access to the best-performing broadband services.
The regions with the slowest speeds can be found in Wales, the east of England and Scotland.
Sebastien Lahtinen, co-founder of thinkbroadband, said: "It is an extremely busy time for broadband in the UK, with criticism around the delayed rollout of superfast broadband and the recent government initiative to provide high-speed connections for business in cities."
However, Mr Lahtinen said the national campaigns being run to improve broadband speeds across the country are beginning to show signs of success.
"It is still early days and there is long way to go until the four million target is reached," he added.
Additional research conducted earlier this year by 4G discovered that even residents in cities with fast broadband services will find that the actual speed they receive can vary dramatically within a local area.
The most startling example of this was in Birmingham, where there is an 89 per cent difference between the fastest and slowest broadband connections.
One way to get over issues such as this is to take out satellite broadband from Avonline. This service utilises signals sent from satellites in space and so provides the same speeds and quality of service to residents across the UK, regardless of their location.
