Northampton fire leads to broadband outage header image

Residents in 16 regions of the UK have been left without internet access after a fire broke out at the Blisworth Telephone Exchange on Friday (September 20th).

There were no injuries sustained during the blaze at the JBJ Business Park in Northampton, though broadband services have been disrupted.

According to ISP Review, it is O2 and Be Broadband customers who have been the worst affected, with reports of a lack of connectivity as far away as Birmingham.

The data centre is managed by BT, but technicians have been refused access to the site by the fire brigade due to health and safety concerns, meaning that affected users will be unable to access the internet for the time being.

Avonline's satellite broadband does not utilise telephone exchanges or underground cables and so the service is not disrupted by incidents such as this. All that is required is a small satellite installed at the property and users will receive high-speed broadband all year round - even those in the most remote areas of the UK.
