The number of people in the European Union using the internet to make phone calls has increased, according to official statistics.
A study by the European Commission revealed 34 per cent of households with a broadband connection use voice over internet protocol (voIP) services, which is an increase of seven percentage points on 2012.
More than a quarter (28 per cent) of people access voIP programmes such as Skype to talk to others on the same network free of charge, while four per cent make international calls using the technology.
The Commission found voIP services are becoming more popular across the continent and are most common in Bulgaria, Cyprus and Estonia.
It also discovered the number of people making calls online tends to increase alongside the number of households connected to the web.
Avonline Broadband can provide the fast and reliable internet service that is needed to make the most of voIP technology.
