Gamers will need broadband access if they are to make the most of the Xbox One.
Microsoft has revealed that the eagerly-awaited new console will need to be connected to the web to play certain games.
A company statement said: "While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games."
Furthermore, games that rely on cloud technology may also need a broadband service to work.
Microsoft advised that a connection speed of 1.5 Mbps will be necessary for "optimal performance".
However, ISPReview has raised doubts about whether a broadband service of this speed could cope with the demands of high-quality video streaming and online gaming.
To make the most of the Xbox One, a super-fast connection of 20 Mbps is the best option. By using satellite broadband, you gain access to this service regardless of whether you live in a small village or large city and it is available now.
