The vast majority of people value broadband more than other media and communication services, according to a new survey by Think Broadband.
When asked if they would rather go without the internet than their TV or mobile phone, only two per cent of people said yes. Nearly half of respondents claimed they would give up their television, while 30 per cent said they would go without their phone.
These figures formed part of Think Broadband's 'Big Broadband Survey 2012', which aims to provide a better understanding of the industry.
More than eight out of ten respondents said the internet is an important part of their social life, with more than half believing it to be very important. Over 50 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds claimed they spend more than six hours online each day, with the evening the most popular time to log on.
Broadband is also becoming increasingly important in people's careers, as 46 per cent of respondents said they use the internet for work. Only 51 per cent of people go online for personal use only.
Think Broadband also found that quality and reliability of connection is the most important factor when people choose an internet service and additional features such as email and web hosting are seen as unimportant. Just over a fifth of respondents said that download speeds are their primary concern.
The survey also analysed customer satisfaction with connection speeds throughout the different regions of the UK. Unsurprisingly, it is areas where there is a significant number of people living in rural or remote locations where most users are unhappy with their broadband service.
More than a third of the respondents in Wales are concerned by their connection speeds, as well as 31 per cent eastern in England and 30 per cent in Scotland. People are most satisfied with their service in built-up areas such as London and the West Midlands.
If you live in a rural location and feel you could benefit from a faster and more reliable internet connection, why not try satellite broadband?
