Consumers are being offered more flexible delivery options when shopping online, meaning ecommerce businesses with satellite broadband or other connections are becoming increasingly popular options, it has been claimed.

Neil Saunders, managing director of retail consultancy firm Conlumino, told the Telegraph that click-and-collect rose to prominence over Christmas because of its convenience.

Allowing consumers to browse for and purchase goods online before picking them up in-store, the service has gained a higher profile in recent months after Amazon began to offer lockers where consumers can pick up their purchases.

"People just don't like waiting in for deliveries, but most are happy to pick up from their local high street," Mr Saunders added.

Furthermore, click-and-collect eliminates any uncertainty that an item may not arrive when it is supposed to, as shoppers will be alerted after it has turned up in-store.

Mobile and multichannel technology firm Usablenet recently suggested that Boxing Day was the UK's busiest day for ecommerce in 2012.
