Business chiefs in Ulverston have welcomed confirmation of the fact that BT is to rollout superfast broadband in the area but expressed concern at how long the company is taking to put its plans into place.
According to the telecoms firm, Ulverston will have to wait until a second broadband scheme is introduced as part of BT's joint initiative with Cumbria County Council to offer services to the third of the county not affected by the commercial rollout.
Peter Cotterill, managing director at Oxley, told the North-West Evening Mail that the prospect of superfast internet replacing poor ADSL connections is "good news" for local businesses. However, he expressed his concern at the uncertainty around the date.
BT will not reveal a specific timescale for the planned rollout until the spring of 2013.
The South Gloucestershire town of Bradley Stoke recently complained that BT has fallen behind on its attempts to bring improved broadband to the area.
