The difficult economic situation faced by many British shoppers has not stopped them from enjoying Christmas but has encouraged them to look online for more bargains, according to a report from YouGov made in conjunction with private sale etailer BrandAlley.
The study indicates that businesses with poor ADSL connections could be set to miss out on festive trade as cash-strapped consumers use the web to cut down on costs.
BrandAlley chief executive Rob Feldmann told Internet Retailing that some 63 per cent of shoppers search for goods online after bricks-and-mortar outlets have closed for the night.
"Our research shows that 86 per cent of people shop around before purchasing and increasingly they like to do this from the comfort of their own home," he added.
Internet psychologist Graham Jones recently highlighted the appeal of the convenience involved in shopping online, urging businesses to ensure their purchasing processes are as streamlined as possible.
