Technologies such as satellite broadband are making it increasingly easy for people to shop online and ecommerce looks set to continue its impressive growth, according to new figures from MetaPack.
Its ecommerce tracker revealed that December 10th saw more people buying goods over the internet than Cyber Monday (December 3rd), which is traditionally considered the busiest day for online retailers.
Patrick Wall, chief executive and founder of the company, told Internet Retailing he expects a "sustained increase" in sales over the coming weeks.
"Over the last two years online sales for the full second week of December have been around two per cent higher than the first week," he added.
Sales in the week up to December 8th were up by ten per cent compared to the previous week, the company found.
Payment services provider Computop recently suggested people in the UK are buying goods online earlier in the month to avoid delays caused by weather disruption.
