Avonline to bring fastest ever satellite broadband to the UK header image

Here at Avonline, we are pleased to reveal we will be bringing the fastest consumer satellite broadband ever available in the UK to local communities in Scotland.

As part of a new Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) pilot scheme, we will install and connect a 30 Mbps satellite broadband service free of charge for up to 1,000 customers in Dumfries and Galloway.

Known as Rural Max, the service is faster than any other consumer satellite broadband previously available in the UK and comes with a 40GB data limit. No phone line is required and the satellite technology means superfast speeds are guaranteed regardless of location or remoteness.

Avonline managing director Mark Wynn stated: "Dumfries & Galloway has been selected as one of only five UK counties in which to pilot this new superfast satellite broadband service … to those in the final five per cent of the population unable to benefit from fixed-line superfast broadband service because of their rural location."

"For many homes and businesses in rural Dumfries and Galloway satellite broadband is their only realistic solution of a better broadband connection over the next few years," he added.

Avonline will not be charging any installation costs or charges for those partaking in the trial, meaning Dumfries and Galloway residents will benefit from superfast satellite broadband at terrestrial broadband pricing that starts at just £24.99 per month. More importantly, it will provide a fast and reliable internet connection to households who would otherwise have been unable to access one due to their location.

Getting connected

This project is one of several pilot schemes being undertaken by BDUK in a bid to explore how alternative broadband technologies can help to connect the final five per cent of UK households who will be excluded from the superfast fibre optic rollout due to being based in remote rural areas.

Satellite broadband is the ideal solution for such people as it can provide the same level of connectivity regardless of location. This is possible because the internet connection is provided by a satellite in space, meaning that, as long as the sky is visible, the service level will be exactly the same on a remote Scottish mountainside as it is in the heart of London.

If you live in the Dumfries and Galloway area and are interested in taking part in the scheme, you can find more information here or can call us on 0303 303 3131. Should you live in the region and not qualify for the trial, we are happy to offer our up-to 22 Mbps satellite broadband service without installation or activation costs.
