It seems that not a week goes by without news of poor connectivity in rural communities across the UK hitting the headlines and some have come to the end of their tether with substandard broadband.
The Haddington and Lammermuir Area Partnership is looking at solutions to improve internet connectivity in remote areas of East Lothian, and is urging residents and businesses to contact them about their own experiences - good or bad, East Lothian News reports.
Locals are being asked to complete a survey about broadband coverage and cite how interested they would be in having access to super-fast speeds. Responses to the poll would help the group build a case for bringing better connectivity to rural communities in the area.
Although super-fast broadband has been made available to many of East Lothian's businesses in larger towns, those based in the remotest parts of the region have been left out of the plans to roll out the service further.
In response to this, representatives from these communities have spearheaded the Haddington and Lammermuir Area Partnership, initiating talks with Community Broadband Scotland to see what action can be taken on a local level to improve the situation.
Councillor John McMillan, Cabinet spokesperson for economic development and tourism, said: "Access to good broadband connectivity is becoming increasingly important in people’s lives - for work, learning, accessing services, leisure and just keeping in touch with family and friends.
"Currently however, connectivity varies across East Lothian - meaning that in some of our communities people are finding it increasingly difficult to take advantage of digital opportunities."
He added that he wants to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the survey, as this will allow the group to gauge the level of interest in super-fast broadband and support communities that are not included in commercial roll outs.
The survey is available online at East Lothian's Consultation Hub and closes on February 20th.
